The "world" population was computed as the sum of the 184 country populations instead of the sum of the 21 area populations (which could be slightly higher, see FAQ page). In consequence, the mortality and incidence rates for the "world" were very slightly overestimated. The corrected figures are presented in version 2.0 of the GLOBOCAN 2008 database.

The projection methods used to estimate prostate cancer incidence data for the UK resulted in unrealistically high estimates. Consequently we have now applied the recorded incidence rates from England and Wales and Scotland for 2006 to the 2008 UK population. The results are presented in the version (1.1) of the GLOBOCAN 2008 database.

For Ecuador and Paraguay, an error has been found in the reallocation of “uterus unspecified” cancer deaths into cervix (C53) or corpus (C54) uterine cancers by age. In consequence, the mortality and incidence estimates for cervical cancer were slightly underestimated, and the mortality and incidence estimates for corpus uterine cancer were slightly overestimated. The corrected figures were presented in the version (1.1) of the GLOBOCAN 2008 database.
