Data sources and methods (summary) - Indice of quality (B2)
Incidence
Data: high quality regional (coverage between 10% and 50%).
Method: estimated from national mortality by modelling, using incidence mortality ratios derived from recorded data in country-specific cancer registries .
Mortality
Data: medium quality complete vital registration.
Method: rates projected to 2012.
Methods (detailed)
 Incidence
Estimated from estimated national mortality for 2012 by modelling, using a set of age-, sex- and site-specific incidence:mortality ratios obtained by the aggregation of recorded cancer registry data from 11 Brazilian cancer registries covering 13% of the population for the period 2003-2007 (Aracaju, Belo Horizonte, Cuiab, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Goinia, Jau, Joo Pessoa, Manaus, Porto Alegre and So Paulo).
Kaposi sarcoma (C46), female breast (C50) and prostate (C61) cancers: regional incidence rates from 12 Brazilian cancer registries (11 listed above plus Recife) for the period 2005-2007 were applied to 2012 population.

 Mortality
National mortality rates (2001-2010) projected to 2012 and applied to 2012 population.

Section of Cancer Surveillance (IARC). The map was extracted from the CIA World Fact Book.
